Troubleshooting and Reporting HR-BAIRS Problems

I need access to HR-BAIRS reporting.

I've run HR-BAIRS reports before, but now the system doesn't seem to be working!

  • If someone else with whom you work regularly has access to HR-BAIRS, a useful first step, if possible, is to see whether that person can access HR-BAIRS or not.  If s/he can, the problem you are experiencing is particular to your workstation or your HR-BAIRS account.  Otherwise, it could indicate a more generalized problem.
  • If the problem seems to be particular to your account or workstation, you can try any or all of the following to help isolate the problem:
    • See if another HR-BAIRS user can access reports from your workstation.  If so, the problem is your HR-BAIRS account, not your workstation.
    • If the problem seems to be with your workstation, try the following, in this order:
      • Log out of all programs and systems, reboot your computer, and try again.
      • If you are unable to load reports, try uninstalling the Brio.Insight plug-in and re-installing it.  See the "Configuring Your Computer" information at http://www.bai.berkeley.edu/bairs/bairsnew.htm for details.
    • If the above doesn't solve the problem, or if the problem seems particular to your HR-BAIRS account (rather than your workstation):
      • If you can log in to HR-BAIRS, unsubscribe from the report(s) that seem to be a problem, then resubscribe to them and try again.
  • If none of the above helps, contact the HRMS Help Desk at 643-4443, or hrmshelp@uclink.berkeley.edu
    • If applicable, take a "screen-shot" of the problem you're experiencing.  On Windows systems, a "snapshot" of the active window can be put into the Clipboard by pressing Alt-PrintScreen.  You can then paste the screenshot into any application document in which a picture can be displayed and printed (such as MS-Word).
    • When you contact the Help Desk, explain what you've tried to do already.  If you haven't tried the steps detailed above, they may ask you to do so (or may ask you to have your workstation support staff try the steps).
    • If that doesn't resolve the problem, the HRMS Help Desk will involve whomever is necessary to resolve the problem.
    • The HRMS Help Desk hours are given on the System Availability and Support page of this website.

The data I'm seeing on my HR-BAIRS reports doesn't look correct to me.

  • Check that the report limits, set on the Dashboard, reflect the data you expect to see in your report.  In the report itself, your dashboard selections are listed in the "Selection Critria" section.  You may wish to pay particular attention to date specifications.
  • If the Dashboard settings look right, check the data you believe to be in error in the HRMS application.  The HR-BAIRS system is designed to faithfully report on data in HRMS; if it's not right in HRMS, it won't be right in HR-BAIRS!
  • If you've found an error in HR-BAIRS whose source does not seem to be an error in the HRMS system itself, please contact the HRMS Help Desk at 643-4443, or hrmshelp@uclink.  Let them know what you've already checked, and what the problem seems to be.  They will involve whomever is necessary to resolve the problem.  The HRMS Help Desk hours are given on the System Availability and Support page of this website.

I would like to suggest a new report or a modification to an existing report.

  • Forward your request to hrbairs@berkeley.edu.  Let them know that your request is for a new report or a modification.  Be sure to include:
    • Fields needed on the report
    • How data should be grouped
    • How each section (groups and body) should be sorted
    • A "mock-up" if possible and appropriate
    • A brief description of the business need for this report.
  • Your request will be forwarded to the campus staff who review, group, and prioritize reports for implementation and deployment.
