Staff Learning and Development

Policies that support staff learning and development

The Berkeley campus is committed to providing job-related training to staff members, as described in the campus Administrative Vision. As a learning institution, Berkeley believes that all staff, as well as students and faculty, should be engaged in continuous learning.

The Personnel Policies for Staff Members (PPSM) and most of the union contracts, include provisions for employee development. In PPSM, the relevant sections are Policy 50: Professional Development, and Policy 51: Reduced Fee Enrollment.

In the labor contracts, the article numbers may differ. Look in the contract that covers your position for an article entitled "Training and (Professional) Development" or "Professional Development and Educational Leave" or something similar.

If you might need a flexible work arrangement to pursue learning opportunities, read the information on this website about telecommuting and work/life balance.
