Service Award Presentation Tips

Service awards have been presented to employees in many ways, and in addition to pleasing stories about presentations, we have heard from employees about the less-than-satisfactory ways they have received their awards.

“I came back from lunch and found it on my chair.”

“My pin was handed to me in a brown envelope.”

Many departments make the presentation of staff service awards an occasion, with small celebrations held one or more times per year.  With this new program you have an opportunity to develop a presentation process.  Awards will now be sent to the company for fulfillment on a quarterly basis.  So, if one is due to receive an award between January and March, the presentation folders will be available around the end of March.

Even ten years of service, in this age of frequent job changing, is a milestone to be celebrated, and there are employees who have been with the University for 30, 35, 40 or even 45 years – a remarkable highlight in their lives.  The University benefits from the accumulated knowledge of these long-term employees, and they should be made to feel special for a few moments because of this achievement.

Set aside a few minutes during a meeting of the staff, or even a special time to call the unit together to give the award.  The presentation folder will contain a letter from the Chancellor and a certificate of recognition for the employee.

Let your employees know you appreciate their dedication and service.
