Some information about the data you will see:

  • Title Code Names
Title names are displayed using the most commonly referred to name rather than the payroll name. For example, 'Senior Administrative Analyst' is used on this report rather than 'Analyst, Administrative, Senior'.
  • Pay Program and Title Unit Code
For non-exclusively represented titles, the Pay Program of Professional and Support Staff (PSS) is applicable and the Title Unit Code of '99 - No Unit' is shown.

For titles that are exclusively represented, the title unit code designation and unit name is reflected, for example 'SX Service' . Additional information on exclusively represented units may be found at http://hrweb.berkeley.edu/hrlabor.htm.

Titles from the Management and Senior Professional (MSP) program have not been included in this report at this time but may be incorporated later. Generally, these titles do not have assigned salary grades so there is little information to provide about them.
  • Step Rates
For positions represented by a bargaining unit, (e.g. UPTE, AFSCME), there are two sets of rates displayed:

    'COV' for positions 'covered' by the bargaining unit;

'UNC' for positions not represented by the bargaining unit. 'UNC' rates are used for supervisory positions, confidential positions and positions held by students. You must know whether the position is 'COV' or 'UNC' before you can determine the correct rate.

For positions which are not represented by a bargaining unit, there is only one set of rates, shown as 'ALL' . For titles of 'Assistant II' (TC 4920) and 'Assistant III' (TC 4921), used only for students, the hourly increments for increase eligibility are shown.

  • FLSA
The report displays whether the title is 'exempt' or 'non-exempt'. Only non-exempt titles are eligible to receive premium overtime compensation under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
  • 6-Month Inc?
Titles eligible for 6-month increases are shown with this box checked.
  • Shift and On-Call Rates
If applicable, the appropriate rates are shown. Currently, rates for the Clerical unit are not displayed on this report.
  • Grade
If the title has been assigned a standard grade, it will be reflected along with the minimum, midpoint, and maximum salary for the grade. For merit-based titles with open ranges such as Programmer/Analysts, Computer Resource Managers, and Health Care Professionals, the grade will show as ‘0’, but the minimum, midpoint and maximum for the title will be shown. Monthly and hourly rate conversions are not shown at this time but may be added later.

Additional salary information for specific groups of employee and salary grade ranges may be found at Pay and Classification Compensation site http://hrweb.berkeley.edu/hrpay.htm.
