DBCs & DHRMs: Benefits Plans
When your employees come to you with inquiries about the benefits plans UC offers, there are a variety of ways for you to help them.
-
Hopefully, you will learn about the plans yourself so you can answer general questions. Two important tools are:
- Your Group Insurance Plans booklet (PDF): This booklet has information about eligibility and an overview of all of the Health & Welfare plans as well as the Flexible Spending Accounts.
- UCRP Summary Plan Description for members with Social Security (PDF): Not all employees are coordinated with social security, but the vast majority are. Additionally, the booklet has the Summary Plan descriptions for the Retirement Savings Plans – the Defined Contribution Plan, the 403(b) Plan and the 457(b) Plan. Both of these booklets can be ordered from KP Supply House or you can reference them online.
- If you don’t know an answer, the first thing to do is see if you can help the employee find the answer. Benefits plans information is organized by category and then by topic. The Human Resources site links to many places on the systemwide At Your Service site, but by no means links to every page. Also, the home page of the At Your Service website has a search feature.
- For more complex questions, you can contact the central campus HR Benefits Unit. The HR Benefits functional assignments list can help you find the person you need to talk to. If you aren’t sure who to contact, send an email to benefits@berkeley.edu or call the reception desk at 642-7053.
NOTE: Open Enrollment for 2012 will occur from Monday, October 31 to Tuesday, November 22, 2011. See Open Enrollment Information for DBCs and DHRMs for more information.
