changes. These eligibility rules became effective on January 1, 2001.

NOT a member of a UC-sponsored defined benefit retirement plan** AND Minimum 50% appointment for 12 months or more (BELI 2) OR 100% for 3 months or more (BELI 3) **Excluded from UCRP (thus, Full Benefits): visiting appointees 8/1/90 and after, "By Agreement" employees who are paid a flat amount and have no covered compensation, casual restricted, those here primarily for education or training (unless in career position), per diem, Regents' professors or lecturers, those who receive "special compensation" but no "covered compensation", active PERS members |

Appointed in a casual/restricted or student reserved position. Appointed in a per diem position. Appointed "by agreement" with pay not related to time on pay status. Appointed to "Without Salary" position. |

*Does not apply to Supplemental Life (Employee-Paid Life), Expanded/Basic Dependent Life, AD&D, Legal, Automobile/Homeowners/Renters, DepCare, HCRA, and TIP. These coverages do not have ongoing eligibility requirements and may be continued regardless of BELI as long as any required contributions are made by the employee through payroll deduction
