HCM: Data Selection Criteria
Overview
Berkeley's implementation of PeopleSoft HCM went into production on July 1, 2002. Data from PPS that was current on that date was converted for importation into HCM. The "conversion data" constitutes the initial HCM record(s) for each person employed at Berkeley on July 1, 2002.
Much of the data converted from PPS had an effective date earlier than the actual date of conversion. For example, if an employee's most recent activity in PPS occurred on January 14, 2001, the effective date(s) of her/his converted data would be 01/14/2001 -- not the date of conversion (07/01/2002). However, such effective-dated rows of HCM data were current as of July 1, 2002, which is why they were imported to the new system.
Date Ranges in HR-BAIRS
- When specifying Effective Date criteria, remember that rows of data converted from PPS may be effective-dated earlier than 07/01/2002. If you want to see rows of data that were converted from PPS when HCM went into production, set the beginning of your Effective Date range to a very early date, such as 01/01/1900.
- When specifying Transaction Date criteria, remember that no transactions occurred in the HCM application prior to the HCM go-live date of 07/01/2002. If you're trying to report on transactions that were entered through HCM, 07/01/2002 is as early as you need to look.
- When specifying As-of Date criteria, HR-BAIRS dashboards will not allow you to specify a date earlier than 07/01/2002. This is because HCM does not contain human-resources data that can be used to accurately represent employees' personnel status prior to the HCM go-live date -- the only data converted from PPS was data current as of July 1st, 2002.

For Ad-hoc reports, use the following guidelines to specify an As-Of date:
- To properly select records based on an "as-of" or "snapshot" date, apply limits to the Data Warehouse fields DW_FEFF_DT and DW_LEFF_DT.
- The earliest date value of DW_FEFF_DT allowed in the Data Warehouse is 07/01/2002.
- In cases where multiple rows of data were converted from PPS on July 1, 2002, all but the latest effective-dated of those rows will have a value of 07/01/2002 in DW_LEFF_DT as well. That latest of the conversion-data's effective-dated rows will contain a high-value (12/31/9999) in DW_LEFF_DT if no subsequent rows have been added since HCM went live; otherwise, that field will contain a date value one day earlier than the next sequential row's effective-date.
- More information about DW_FEFF_DT and DW_LEFF_DT can be found in the Data Dictionary [coming soon, TBA] that is part of this website.
