HCM: Federal Definition of Applicant

Federal Definition of Applicant

UC Berkeley, as a federal contractor, is required by The Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) to maintain records regarding Internet hiring processes and the solicitation of race, gender, and ethnicity of "Internet Applicants." The OFCCP final rule on "Internet Applicants" became effective February 6, 2006.

For UC Berkeley staff employment, Internet Applicants apply for positions directly at the UC Berkeley Jobs website. Job seekers who apply for positions on our website must meet four criteria in order to be considered true "Internet Applicants."

  1. The individual submits an expression of interest in employment through via our careers home page (Blu campus portal for Internal Applicants or the UC Berkeley Jobs website for External Applicants).
  2. UC Berkeley hiring department considers the individual for employment for a specific position.
  3. The applicant’s supplied materials (resume, cover letter etc.) indicate they meet the basic requirements (required qualifications) of the job. Keep in mind that if an applicant does not meet your required qualifications, they are not minimally qualified for the position and should be de-selected and not considered an applicant.
  4. The applicant does not remove or withdraw him or herself from consideration prior to receiving a job offer from the department.
