Ad-Hoc Reporting in HR-BAIRS

Those who are developing ad hoc queries should be aware of the following requirements:

  • Base ad hoc queries on published reports from the BAIRS portal.
  • A .bqy file opens in your web browser when an HR-BAIRS report is requested. Save that file to a local/network drive, then open it with your copy of Brio.
  • Do not add any views (tables) or joins to the query in the .bqy file.
  • Request additional fields from the views already joined into the pre-approved query or eliminate fields or whole views from the pre-approved query.
  • If adding additional limits (fields on which to set criteria), set the limits on lookup-views where possible rather than on the fact views.  Lookup views are generally views with "Lkup" as part of the view name, such as Job_Code_Lkup_V. Fact views include variants of Employee_Dim_V, Job_Earns_Dist_V, and Compensation_V.

Note: If you have an immediate requirement to create ad hoc queries and existing .bqy files are not suitable starting points, direct email requests on such requirements to hrbairs@berkeley.edu.
