Comment Period Ending Soon for Extensions to ERIT and Military Pay Supplement

Two proposals to extend programs due to expire this month are currently open for comment by staff covered by Personnel Policies for Staff Members (PPSM). The comment period is scheduled to end on Friday, June 22, 2012. For more details, please see below, and send any comments to hrpolicy@berkeley.edu by the deadline.

Employee-Initiated Reduction in Time (ERIT)

The University is asking for comments from managers, supervisors and employees covered by the Personnel Policies for Staff Members (PPSM) regarding a proposal to extend the Employee-Initiated Reduction in Time (ERIT) program to June 1, 2014, with all other aspects of the program remaining as first established

The ERIT Program, which is currently scheduled to conclude on June 30, 2012, enables eligible career staff (except Senior Management Group members) to voluntarily reduce their working time and corresponding pay.  In exchange, employees receive certain specified advantages, such as accrual of vacation and sick leave, based on the rate at which they accrued these leaves prior to participating in the ERIT Program.  The details of the current program can be found on the HR website, at http://hrweb.berkeley.edu/er/policies/erit.

Policy on Supplement to Military Pay

In addition, the University is asking for comments from managers, supervisors and employees covered by PPSM regarding a proposal to renew the Policy on Supplement to Military Pay for a two year period, effective July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2014.  All other aspects of the program will remain as first established.

The current Policy on Supplement to Military Pay is scheduled to end on June 30, 2012.  Under the proposed renewal, the University will provide eligible employees with supplemental payments equal to the difference between the employees’ University base pay and their military pay and allowances until one of the following events, whichever occurs first:

  • End of an employee’s tour of active military duty
  • June 30, 2014
  • Separation date of an employee’s University appointment

The details of the current program can be found at http://hrweb.berkeley.edu/er/leaves/other/military.

Policy covered employees who wish to provide comments on the revised policies may submit them to hrpolicy@berkeley.eduby Friday, June 22, 2012.
