University of California, Berkeley

Employee-Initiated Reduction in Time (ERIT) Program

The University is renewing the Employee-Initiated Reduction in Time (ERIT) Program to enable eligible career staff (except Senior Management Group members) to voluntarily reduce their working time and corresponding pay. Eligible employees may begin to sign up for ERIT immediately.

The program specifications, procedures, and application forms can be found at: http://hrweb.berkeley.edu/er/policies/erit. The program will be available for the period July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2014.

Departments have the option to implement or not implement the ERIT program. In departments that choose to implement ERIT, an employee may request the department head's approval to voluntarily reduce working time, within specified program limits. For exclusively represented employees, participation in ERIT is subject to collective bargaining. Please check the Frequently Asked Questions section of the ERIT website for updated information regarding availability of the program to employees in specified bargaining units.

For additional details about the ERIT program, please contact your appropriate HR representative or Employee Relations.
