Staff Cost Reduction Options
The severity of this financial crisis cannot be overstated, but the crisis also affords us the opportunity to evaluate everything we do as a university and determine whether we can do it more efficiently or in a better way.
As of March 2009, UC Berkeley is implementing two programs designed to create alternative ways to reduce administrative and staff expenses in the short term, while allowing time for natural attrition and other means to shrink the workforce. The links below will provide additional information about START, the hiring freeze, and the Voluntary Separation Option (VSO).
